Infinite Blackjack: How Unlimited Seats Change the Game
Standard blackjack seats six or seven players. Infinite blackjack allows unlimited players at one table. All players see the same cards. The true count changes as players enter and leave mid-shoe.

What Infinite Blackjack Is
Infinite blackjack is a live-dealer game where the shoe is shared among all players, but each player makes independent decisions. Ten players at the table, all seeing the exact same cards dealt, all making their own hitting/standing choices.
This changes the math compared to traditional blackjack. In a six-seat game, a third-base player (sitting in the last position) can adjust basic strategy based on the dealer's up card and the overall table composition. Infinite blackjack has no seats. Everyone is playing simultaneously.
The technical innovation is that the dealer does not wait for individual players to act sequentially. Instead, each player has a time window (say, ten seconds) to make their decision. All decisions are submitted. The hand resolves. The shoe advances.
The Card Counting Wrinkle
I spent fifteen years on the road chasing true count. Basic strategy is taught to beginners. Card counting is for professionals. You track the ratio of high cards to low cards remaining. You adjust your bet size based on the count.
In infinite blackjack, multiple things happen simultaneously that would not happen in traditional blackjack. Player A doubles down. Player B hits. Player C stands. The sequence matters for count adjustment in a sequential game. In infinite blackjack, there is no sequence. Everyone is acting at once.
More importantly, players enter and leave mid-shoe. A counter has built a count of plus four on a eight-deck shoe with five decks remaining. The true count is plus four divided by five decks, or plus 0.8. Strong count. A high bettor would increase bet size significantly.
Then fifteen new players join at the same moment. The dealer does not reshuffle. The count is still plus 0.8. But now there are more players at the table consuming cards at the same pace. The count decays faster.
Volatility and Sample Size
Infinite blackjack inherently has higher variance because more cards are dealt per round. In a six-seat game, roughly five cards are dealt per round (dealer plus players hitting). In an infinite-blackjack game with fifty players, maybe one hundred cards are dealt per round.
This acceleration means the shoe penetrates faster. In traditional blackjack, a counter might get thirty minutes of favorable true count before the shoe runs out. In infinite blackjack, thirty minutes of play might burn through the entire shoe.
The advantage of favorable shoe penetration is larger. The cost is that the favorable period is shorter. A counter needs to bet a larger fraction of bankroll to capitalize on the advantage. This requires a much larger bankroll and high tolerance for variance.
The Regulatory Question
Card counting is legal. Casinos can ask you to leave for counting, but they cannot prosecute you. Infinite blackjack casinos are aware that card counters might attempt to play.
The countermeasure is simple: casinos reshuffle more frequently in infinite blackjack. Instead of eight decks with six-deck penetration, a casino running infinite blackjack might use eight decks with five-deck penetration, or even four-deck penetration. This reduces the window of favorable count.
Some casinos use continuous-shuffle machines, eliminating counting entirely. Other casinos use frequency counters that automatically flag accounts exhibiting bet-variation patterns consistent with counting. An account betting minimum on negative counts and maximum on positive counts is flagged immediately.
The Strategy Implications
Infinite blackjack shifts the game toward house edge because of the increased rake and the reduced counting opportunity. The house edge in traditional blackjack is roughly 0.5% with perfect basic strategy. In infinite blackjack with frequent reshuffles, the house edge might be 1% or higher.
A casual player should not distinguish between traditional and infinite blackjack from a strategy perspective. They should use basic strategy regardless. The edge is too small to exploit without counting.
A counting player should avoid infinite blackjack unless the penetration is very deep (seven decks played before reshuffled, not five). Most online casinos running infinite blackjack use shallow penetration specifically to frustrate counters.
The Practical Truth
I have not played infinite blackjack seriously because the edge is too small. The variance is too high. The reshuffle frequency is too fast. These conditions favor the house and disfavor the counter.
The casino's design of infinite blackjack is not motivated by card counting. It is motivated by volume. More players at the table means more hands dealt per hour means more house revenue per table. The anti-counting features are secondary.
But they are effective.
